Mehndi Monday: Henna Peacock Feather

I've always wanted to make a henna feather, or a henna peacock feather. It's been a goal ever since I started.

I would sketch them, not once or twice, but at least 100s of times. I'd hopelessly fail!

Something I've always noticed is that my work is neater with a cone- whether it's filled with henna or paint. So when I saw a blank candle set, I figured I should try it out with paint. If I didn't like it I could always peel it off!

(Acrylic paint peels off candles if not sealed)

I looked up some henna feathers online and used them to assist me with the shapes. I always started from the bottom up, but I realized I should've started from the top and worked my way to the bottom.

I loved making this feather! I purposely outlined it all in gold and filled it with blue and green to keep the whole peacock theme going.

I have 3 candles that work with the peacock theme and look forward to the feedback I'll get! Hopefully it'll be good feedback only!

Sneak peak of the other candle!

Aanchal's Henna Tips

#1

Let the paste fully dry and avoid water on the area where henna was applied.

#2

The longer the paste is on, the better it is for your stain. Use something sticky like hairspray or lemon-sugar to keep the henna on.

#3

Once the paste is off, protect your stain with oil like coconut oil, or hand salve. Especially before showering!
