Designs: Where do I start?

Looking through henna designs is actually one of the most difficult things about being a henna artist. Not only do you feel pressured to make nice, pretty designs but you also are constantly comparing yourself to other henna artists like @hennabydivya, @hennalounge, and more. Everyone has their own style and own way to go about things.

Look at henna designs on Google, Pinterest and Instagram. Those are the best websites for inspiration. Don't take another artist's designs (unless you plan to credit them!). You start to get a feel of henna, and what kind of designs you hope to do. Once you memorize some of the elements to the designs, sketch it out! Some of the best henna artists sketch out their designs prior to application. It gives you a better visual, and allows you to see where you excel with henna, and where you may lack some skill. I personally don't like to sketch before application and that's because my art work is neater in coning than it is with pens and pencils. I practice the designs on acrylic hands or paper.

Practice makes perfect! That really applies to henna.

Aanchal's Henna Tips

#1

Let the paste fully dry and avoid water on the area where henna was applied.

#2

The longer the paste is on, the better it is for your stain. Use something sticky like hairspray or lemon-sugar to keep the henna on.

#3

Once the paste is off, protect your stain with oil like coconut oil, or hand salve. Especially before showering!
